SXSW- WRISTBANDS ARE FOR CHUMPS!!

I do have lots of fun during SXSW here in Austin. But I am cheap. So that means, I am NOT going to shell out money for a wristband or a badge. But if its given to me, I will take it!

But this year, I am flying by the seat of my pants without ANY credentials!!

So, how am I going to do it? I am going to mooch off friends that have credientials (because their band is playing)...and I am going to attend FREE parties.

With that said, I have put together a list of parties in case any of you also want to party on a dime with me...here it is:

=========================================================
**I will not be going to this unless someone gets me a button from the convention center…but it doesn’t look like a ‘go’ for me.

Yo! Kick off SXSW Interactive at the 97bottles
Happy Hour, at the Gingerman Pub in Austin.
Join us on the back patio from 5-6pm on Friday, 3/13/09, for awesomeness.

Beers and snacks are TOTALLY FREE, but there's a catch: You have to find a [Blue Flavor team member] at the conference to acquire a special 97bottles button beforehand. Show us the button when you get to the Gingerman, and drinks are on us! See you there!

The Blue Flavor and 97bottles team

Gallery Preview: Wednesday, March 18th 2009 from 7-11pm.Opening Reception: Thursday, March 19th 2009, from 7-11pm, open to the public.Film Premiere: For dates and times check www.shootinggallerysf.comGallery Hours: Thursday though Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.Humble Pictures, along with The Shooting Gallery and The Alternative Café, is proud to present their film, “New Brow: The Rise of Underground Art”, to Austin, TX, March 20th and 21st, 2009 from 8-10pm at 602 West Seventh St. Suite A, Austin Texas. Despite being turned away by the acceptance committee for SXSW, The Shooting Gallery remains committed to premiering “New Brow” to their Texas audience. To highlight the significance of the film’s place in history, internationally renowned art dealer, Justin Giarla, has put together a comprehensive body of work from artists interviewed in the film. The exhibit will run for a week, as a tribute to those who’ve made contributions to the Low Brow art movement. A progressive line up of works will be included, by emerging and largely significant Low Brow and Pop Surrealist artists. 602 West Seventh St. Suite A will be busy night and day through out the week of March 15th, with a private press preview, opening reception, and film screening. Juxtapoz Magazine, the art publication holding the largest circulation in the US, will be sponsoring all events. With their sponsorship, the event comes full circle, as they have brought these underground artists to the attention of the general public. They’ve provided a voice for the Do-It-Yourself culture that only continues to take things to the next level. These parties will include, DJ’s, adult beverages, and killer time to be had by all.The film, “New Brow”, exposes first hand accounts from artists, galleries, and collectors who initiated and maintained the New American Art Movement. Documenting the personal studios and makeshift gallery spaces where the movement began, it reveals the raw nature required for a new genre to be created. The film brings to attention influences often unrecognized or underrated, such as underground comix, Kustum Kulture, graffiti, tattoo, skate and surf, punk art and others amidst Californian sub-cultures. Among the movement’s history, “New Brow” puts things in perspective, to its major contributor and inspiration, Robert Williams.Artists included in the exhibit are the following: Eric Joyner, Charles Krafft, Shawn Barber, Travis Louie, Anthony Ausgang, Ron English, Mike Giant, Isabel Samaras, Camille Rose Garcia, Van Arno, Shepard Fairey, Liz McGrath, Henry Lewis, Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Glenn Barr, Kill Pixie, Niagara, Sas & Colin, Erik Foss, Yumiko Kayukawa, Natalia Fabia, Paul Chatem, Sylvia Ji, Helen Garber, Joshua Petker, Mike Maxwell, Greg Gossel, Francesco LoCastroLocation:602 West 7th #A,Austin TX 78701(415) 931.8035
