Space Out at the Carousel March 20th 2-7PM

Space Out at the Carousel Day Party During SXSW

March 20th, 2009 2-7pm

Carousel Lounge in Austin, TX

1110 E 52nd St Get Directions Here

Admission is FREE,

No Badge/Wristband Required

RSVP for priority admission / 21+$2 Setup Bar

Not all parties have to be downtown or in the 6th street area. If you are tired of dealing with people and traffic, consider a party at a location away from all of that (they do exist). There will be bands playing too.
The Carousel Day Party is an Experimental, Space Rock, Psych, Shoegaze, Dream Pop Band Showcase During SXSW Music Fesival

If you have NEVER been to the Carousel Lounge, its a trip. Its truely Austin-tatious. And to save even more $$, you can bring in your own liquor (but you cannot bring in beer or wine coz they sell that there) and buy a $2 set up for your bottle. There is a liquor store just 2 doors down from the bar just in case you wanna make a pit stop there first.

the VIllage Voice Party!! Friday 3/20

Friday, March 20 from noon to 5pm
Location: La Zona Rosa

The Village Voice parties of previous years have always been pretty good...and the schwag aint bad eigther. But considering everyones cutting back, you should just be lucky to go to a party-ha..

Here is the info from the website about this:

Every year, the event-planning honchos at Village Voice Media throw a Friday afternoon shindig during South by Southwest. Once again this year, it'll be completely, unequivocally free and held at La Zona Rosa, a spacious 4th-Street venue that knuckleheads think it's creative to call La Coka Nostra. Last year, the VVM party starred such fine rollicking luminaries as the Black Keys, Trail of Dead, and Health--this year, we are here to announce that M. Ward, Cursive, Gomez, and Bear Hands will be your musical hosts. It all takes place on Friday, March 20 from noon to 5pm, with set times to be announced. Get excited, dudes: Hold Time is an amazing hangover helper.

Here is where to find the info:

You know the SXSW motto dont you? Here it is: Sleep is for wimps!!

This is by VTech. You can RSVP for this one if you are with the media...
just lie, sign up.

After you sign up, you will see this message on the screen:

Alternative Press Party

Another day-time party...I do not know if you need a wristband or badge for this one. And there is not a way to RSVP to this party. But so what!!

Even if you dont have the credentials, do it the Diva-Way.....just act like you are supposed to be there and walk right in. Usually its just volunteers working and they do not know if you are really supposed to be there or not-so hold your head high and walk right in and have some fun. And if you see me, save me a place in the beer line OK? Thanks in advance....

The Alternative Press party (hosted by the Alternative Press magazine) is usually one of the most popular daytime events at SXSW, and few British bands are ever asked to participate!

The event takes place Thursday 19th March at The Terrace between 4 - 7PM • 412 D. Congress Ave. (it’s the rooftop of popular venue The Speakeasy)

SXSW- WRISTBANDS ARE FOR CHUMPS!!

I do have lots of fun during SXSW here in Austin. But I am cheap. So that means, I am NOT going to shell out money for a wristband or a badge. But if its given to me, I will take it!

But this year, I am flying by the seat of my pants without ANY credentials!!

So, how am I going to do it? I am going to mooch off friends that have credientials (because their band is playing)...and I am going to attend FREE parties.

With that said, I have put together a list of parties in case any of you also want to party on a dime with me...here it is:

Despite being turned away by the acceptance committee for SXSW, The Shooting Gallery remains committed to premiering “New Brow” to their Texas audience. To highlight the significance of the film’s place in history, internationally renowned art dealer, Justin Giarla, has put together a comprehensive body of work from artists interviewed in the film. The exhibit will run for a week, as a tribute to those who’ve made contributions to the Low Brow art movement. A progressive line up of works will be included, by emerging and largely significant Low Brow and Pop Surrealist artists. 602 West Seventh St. Suite A will be busy night and day through out the week of March 15th, with a private press preview, opening reception, and film screening. Juxtapoz Magazine, the art publication holding the largest circulation in the US, will be sponsoring all events. With their sponsorship, the event comes full circle, as they have brought these underground artists to the attention of the general public. They’ve provided a voice for the Do-It-Yourself culture that only continues to take things to the next level. These parties will include, DJ’s, adult beverages, and killer time to be had by all.The film, “New Brow”, exposes first hand accounts from artists, galleries, and collectors who initiated and maintained the New American Art Movement. Documenting the personal studios and makeshift gallery spaces where the movement began, it reveals the raw nature required for a new genre to be created. The film brings to attention influences often unrecognized or underrated, such as underground comix, Kustum Kulture, graffiti, tattoo, skate and surf, punk art and others amidst Californian sub-cultures. Among the movement’s history, “New Brow” puts things in perspective, to its major contributor and inspiration, Robert Williams.Artists included in the exhibit are the following: Eric Joyner, Charles Krafft, Shawn Barber, Travis Louie, Anthony Ausgang, Ron English, Mike Giant, Isabel Samaras, Camille Rose Garcia, Van Arno, Shepard Fairey, Liz McGrath, Henry Lewis, Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Glenn Barr, Kill Pixie, Niagara, Sas & Colin, Erik Foss, Yumiko Kayukawa, Natalia Fabia, Paul Chatem, Sylvia Ji, Helen Garber, Joshua Petker, Mike Maxwell, Greg Gossel, Francesco LoCastroLocation:602 West 7th #A,Austin TX 78701(415) 931.8035
